Also, ALL of these ROYAL England Championship Golf Courses are Walking courses. You will have the option to hire a caddy, carry, or rent a pull cart. For those that have a medical certificate there is a chance that you can rent a golf cart if available, please advise us of this and we will advise you if this can be done at some of the clubs. * Handicap maximum restrictions are also in place at some of these great golf clubs, if your handicap is above this restriction, I will contact you with instructions.
ROYAL St. Georges Golf Club:
This great course is ranked by "Golf Digest" as 28th in the "Top 100 golf courses in the World". This golf course has hosted 15 Open championships, the first in 1894 when it became the first club outside Scotland to host the championship. Past champions include Collin Morikawa (2021), Darren Clarke, Ben Curtis, Greg Norman, Sandy Lyle, Bill Rogers, Bobby Locke, Henry Cotton, Walter Hagen and Harry Vardon. It has also hosted the British Amateur Championship on 14 occasions. This course also possesses the deepest bunker in all championship golf, located on its fourth hole.
ROYAL Birkdale Golf Club: This great course is ranked by "Golf Digest" as 17th in the "Top 100 golf courses in the World".
This golf course has hosted 10 Open championships between 1954 and 2017, which in 2017 was won by Jordan Spieth over Matt Kuchar. Some past winners are Padraig Harrington, Mark O'Meara, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller, Lee Trevino, and Arnold Palmer. This course is scheduled to hold the Open again in 2026. Other than the Open it has also hosted the Women's British Open, Senior Open Championship and the Ryder Cup matches twice.
ROYAL Liverpool Golf Club:
This great course is ranked by "Golf Digest" as 77th in the "Top 100 golf courses in the World". This golf course has hosted 13 Open championships between 1897 and 2023, which of course was won this year by Brian Harman. Some past winners include Rory Mcllroy, Tiger Woods, and Bobby Jones. This great course added a new par 3 (130 yard) #17 hole called "Little Eye" which played havoc with some of the golfers in this years Open. ROYAL Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club:
This great course is ranked by "Golf Digest" as 48th in the "Top 100 golf courses in the World".
This golf course has hosted 11 Open championships between 1926 and 2012. Some past winners include Ernie Els, Seve Ballesteros, David Duval, Tom Lehman, Bob Charles, Gary Player, and Bobby Jones. This championship course starts off with a par 3 hole which is very unusual for any golf course. It also has 174 strategically placed pot bunkers throughout the course which makes this one of the hardest links courses to play in the wind.
OPTIONAL additional golf:
Royal Blackheath Golf Club: Located near our London hotel. This great private course belongs to the "Oldest Golf Club" in England which was established in 1604. The present parkland golf course was laid out in 1904 and redone in 1926 by the famous golfer James Braid and is ranked in the Top 50 UK courses. With the clubhouse right behind the 18th green on the par four 260 yard hole, this hole is the ultimate risk and reward hole to make or break your round.
Formby Hall Resort Course: Designed by Willie Park Junior, and later by James Braid. This parkland course is located just outside of our rooms at this resort. It is ranked 42nd in the "Best in the UK and Ireland" by Golf magazine. It also has played host to the European Challenge Tour and European Senior Tour.
* To play either of these optional golf courses on the "optional golf " days please advise us on your entry form so we can reserve the tee times. Negotiated green fees at these courses are 120 GBP at Royal Blackheath and 65 GBP at Formby Hall.
